Yasushi Yamashita is the founder of Inoyama Land, a legendary group in the Japanese ambient music scene. Their music is currently being re-evaluated in the world, with many of their records being reissued, and they have recently resumed performing. ASUNA is known for their performance „100 Keyboards,“ as well as for using a large number of toy instruments, and for their research and composition of physical acoustic phenomena.
About 20 years ago, ASUNA had the opportunity to perform with the Inoyama Land at a small record store in Tokyo called Enban. Since then, Inoyama Land has participated in a Casiotone compilation on Asuna’s aotoao label, and they have exchanged recordings with each other, and many years have passed since they said they would record together someday. This year, Yamashita visited Asuna’s show at memorial concert for Ryuichi Sakamoto, and through mutual acquaintances such as Italy’s Passepartout Duo, the talks of recording together have progressed concretely, and the recording in Tokyo has finally become a reality. Yamashita & Asuna played synthesizers and toy instruments that they brought with them, exchanging them with each other, and while leaving the studio door open to feel the outside air, they played guitars and pianos that happened to be in the studio, and recorded improvisationally in a relaxed atmosphere, including performances that they don’t usually do. The quiet and warm conversation resonated with the strong and gentle ambience that they have been walking so far, along with the idyllic wind of spring in Tokyo. After that, ASUNA edited the album and completed it. This album was released simultaneously on vinyl and CD by Kanu Kanu Recordings in Poland and HEADZ in Japan. It was followed by a tour in Japan, mainly at museums and theatres.
